AFK Journey lets you level just five heroes and one gear set per class, then carry that power across an open world of seven factions and four daily Dream Realm bosses.

AFK Journey is a strategy idle RPG from Lilith Games, published under Farlight Games, released globally on March 27, 2024 for Android and iOS. You play as Merlin, a non-combat Magister who commands a five-hero formation across the open world of Esperia. Combat is auto-chess style: you position heroes on a grid, factor in terrain and faction buffs, and time ultimates rather than tapping attacks. The pull is the no-grind progression. Equipment and levels are shared per class, so building one Warrior set powers every Warrior you own. Version 1.6.41 runs the Tower of Memory season with new S-Level heroes Gunnar, Zorya, and Pippa.

Six classes, one shared gear set, and why no hero is wasted

The single biggest time-saver in AFK Journey is that gear and levels attach to a class, not to an individual hero. You equip and upgrade six pieces (Weapon, Gloves, Accessory, Helm, Armor, Boots) once per class, and every hero in that class inherits the loadout automatically. Swap your Marksman before a fight and the new one walks in fully geared at zero cost. Top-ranking guides usually list the six classes and stop there, so here is the part they skip: you only need to level five heroes deep, because the formation cap is five.

The six classes split cleanly by combat role:

  • Tank (orange shield): the biggest HP pools and damage-soaking skills, deployed front row to hold the line. Brutus gains temporary invincibility when he takes a lethal strike, buying the backline a recovery window.
  • Warrior (red axe): frontline brawlers that mix offense and defense, often acting as a second tank. Florabelle and Igor distract enemies with summons and repositioning.
  • Rogue (green knife): melee assassins that leap into the enemy backline to delete squishy carries. Seth dashes to the weakest enemy, freezes them, then hits for 150% bonus damage.
  • Marksman (purple-blue bow): high single-target ranged damage with low survivability. Odie scales hard once ascended to unlock his Execution skill.
  • Mage (arcane): ranged AoE and rampage damage, fragile and easily picked off by Rogues like Seth. They need a healer babysitting them to stay alive.
  • Support (aid and buffs): healing, Haste buffs, and Energy regen. Damian recovers ally HP and raises Haste, keeping carries firing longer.

Because gear is class-bound, experimenting is free. Try a new hero in the same class before a battle, and if the kit does not fit, swap back without re-grinding a single resource.

Seven factions, the faction bonus, and the +15% counter chart that decides fights

Faction stacking is the math that wins or loses a formation, and most pages explain the bonus without the exact percentages. Here they are: deploy 3, 3+2, 4, or 5 heroes from the same faction and every hero on your side gets ATK and HP +10%, +14%, +18%, or +22% respectively. That is why a clean five-stack is the default goal for tough content.

There are seven factions, split into four standard and three special. The four standard factions, Lightbearers, Maulers, Wilders, and Graveborns, fill out most rate-up banners and are far easier to collect. Maulers are the second-largest faction with 11 heroes and carry early damage through Smokey, Antandra, and Brutus. Wilders hold most of the Healer and Support pool, so meta teams lean on at least one. Graveborns like Thoran and Cecia sit at the top for both story and Arena.

The two special factions, Celestials and Hypogeans, hold the four rarest heroes (Berial, Dionel, Reinier, Scarlita) from Stargaze Station and act as wildcards. Each one counts as whatever faction is most represented in your party for bonus purposes, plus a flat +1% ATK and HP per Celestial or Hypogean deployed. A party of four Graveborns and one Celestial still triggers the five-stack bonus. The third group, “Others,” only applies to certain enemy units.

On top of bonuses, Faction Strategies run a permanent counter chart, similar to elemental weakness. Attacking a faction weak to yours adds 15% damage; hitting one that resists you cuts 15%. Graveborns beat Lightbearers but fold to Wilders, so the same team can swing hard or stall depending on who it faces.

A five-hero formation drawn from 95+ heroes, ranked A-Level and S-Level

You build with exactly five heroes from a roster that passed 95 characters in late 2025, and the rarity system is simpler than most gachas. Heroes come in two power tiers, A-Level (the accessible pool) and S-Level (the strongest), with the rare Celestial and Hypogean heroes layered on top. The detail that matters for planning your resources: ascension costs scale brutally with rarity.

Taking an S-Level hero to Supreme+ needs the original copy plus 7 dupes (8 total) and 350 Faction Acorns. Hypogean heroes need the original plus 13 dupes, 14 total, which is why most players ascend one or two key carries rather than spreading thin. Investment priorities split by mode. For breezing AFK Stages, players push Odie, Cecia, Rowan, Smokey & Meerky, and Antandra to at least Legendary. For Arena climbing, the focus shifts to Arden, Carolina, Damian, Eironn, Reinier, and Thoran.

Merlin himself never fights. His role is buffing the team through the Artifact you assign him, which shapes how your chosen formation performs each battle.

AFK Stages, Dream Realm, Arena, and the modes each one unlocks

AFK Stages are the spine of progression, and the stage you reach sets your idle reward rate, which starts at 12 hours of stored loot and extends toward 24 hours as you climb. Clearing specific stages is also the key that unlocks almost everything else, so pushing depth here matters more than it first appears. Most overviews list the modes; fewer tell you the exact unlock gates, so here they are.

  • Dream Realm (unlocks after AFK Stage 16): a server-wide boss rush where you race other players for damage. Four bosses rotate daily across six difficulties, and once you beat a boss on its hardest cleared tier, you start there next cycle instead of refighting easy modes. Galahad reshaped this mode in Season 6 and dethroned older damage carries like Shemira.
  • Arena and Supreme Arena (PvP): ranked ladders where Supreme Arena runs three separate battles per player, demanding more roster depth than the standard single fight.
  • Honor Duel: fair-play PvP where you do not use your own heroes. The game hands everyone units through a card and shop draft, so the result rests on draft skill, not account power.
  • Arcane Labyrinth (unlocks after AFK Stage 100): the AFK Arena maze reborn, with each round lasting a week and unlimited point-farming attempts.
  • Legend Trial (unlocks after stage 166): the factional tower rebuilt, with trials rotating by day of the week and rewarding Acorns and Essence.

The auto-challenge feature in AFK Stages pushes you to the next fight automatically, so you are not babysitting clears once your formation outscales a stage.

Open-world Esperia and the Homestead base you can decorate and share

Instead of the stage-hopping campaign of AFK Arena, AFK Journey drops you into an open world you actually walk through. Esperia is split into regions and chapters, and you advance by finishing the quests in each area while gathering materials, solving puzzles, and opening chests that hold Invite Letters, Diamonds, Hero Essence, and gear. Teleportation points handle fast travel between cleared zones, so backtracking for missed treasure stays quick.

Homestead is the social and base-building layer. You design and customize your own plot, assign heroes to restoration and decoration tasks, and visit other players’ builds. It has grown large enough that Lilith Games spun it into a standalone app, AFK Journey: Homestead, adding NPC interactions like petting stray cats and snowball fights, plus multiplayer battles to defend Esperia from invasions. The mode anchors much of the current season’s social content alongside the auto-chess battles.

What’s new in AFK Journey version 1.6.41: Tower of Memory and the 2nd anniversary

Version 1.6.41 runs the Tower of Memory season and overlaps the game’s 2nd anniversary, which is the largest reward window since global launch. The headline additions are three new heroes and a stack of celebration events.

Three S-Level heroes join the roster: Gunnar, the Iron Doom (Hypogean Tank), available through Stargaze Station and the Guild Store; Zorya, the Watcher in Stone (Graveborn Warrior), on Rate Up Recruitment; and Pippa, the Muddled Magician (Wilder Mage), a returning AFK Arena face known for RNG-heavy magic, also on Rate Up Recruitment. Compared with the earlier 1.5.4 build that added Alna and Tilaya, this update leans into anniversary payouts.

The Dawnlight Revelry celebration drives the rewards. Across login tracks, guild events, and daily draws, the developers confirmed over 200 Invite Letters, 30+ Stellar Crystals, and 24,000+ Diamonds, plus a free Select Celestial/Hypogean Chest from the Blessing of Bonds login event. The Verdant Dreams guild mode has teams clearing mist areas to collect notes that unlock party-wide buffs. New Reputation Quests for Magical Creatures, the Starry Tales feature with Athalia’s exclusive story Final Verdict, and the Verdant Treasures event round out the patch.

AFK Journey MOD APK features

This MOD targets the two slow points the stock build forces on you: the wait through repeated auto-battles and the resource walls between formation power spikes. It scales combat speed and hero output so AFK Stage pushes and Dream Realm farming take a fraction of the usual time, aimed at players who want to test formations across all seven factions without grinding every clear by hand.

Battle Speed Multiplier

The stock game caps auto-battle at 2x speed, so a deep AFK Stage push or a full Dream Realm boss attempt plays out at normal pace. The MOD applies a global speed multiplier that runs fights well past the in-game cap, collapsing a 60-second boss fight into seconds. This matters most in Dream Realm, where you re-run four daily bosses across six difficulties, and in the open-world clears where you grind Training Manuals from roaming enemies.

Damage Multiplier

Instead of needing Brutus, Odie, or Galahad ascended to Supreme+ with the right Faction Acorns, the MOD multiplies hero damage so under-built formations clear content above their normal power band. A team that would stall on a high-deficit AFK Stage instead pushes through, useful for reaching the AFK Stage 16, 100, and 166 gates that unlock Dream Realm, Arcane Labyrinth, and Legend Trial.

God Mode / Defense Multiplier

Mage and Marksman heroes die fast in stock play because of their low HP, which is why they normally need a Tank wall and a Support healer like Damian. The MOD’s defense scaling keeps fragile carries like Pippa alive without that babysitting, so you can run a five-stack damage formation that ignores the usual front-row requirement and survives Rogue dives from Seth-type enemies.

Mod Menu

A floating in-game menu toggles the speed, damage, and defense options on or off mid-session, so you can switch them off before sensitive content and on for grinding. The toggle approach lets you keep normal pacing in the open-world story while speeding up only the repetitive AFK Stage and Dream Realm runs.

Note: the comparison below is built around how the MOD changes AFK Journey’s auto-battle pacing and survivability, not currency, since the game’s heroes and Diamonds are handled server-side.

The table sums up the core differences between the stock AFK Journey and the MOD build, so you can see exactly what the MOD changes before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AFK Journey MOD APK safe to use on my main account?

Treat the MOD as a risk for any account you care about. AFK Journey runs server-side checks on PvP modes like Arena and Honor Duel, and speed or damage scaling can be flagged. Use it on a separate or throwaway account for AFK Stage and open-world grinding rather than on a main you have invested anniversary pulls into.

Will the MOD give me unlimited Diamonds or free S-Level heroes?

No. Heroes from Stargaze Station, Invite Letter pulls, and Diamonds are validated on Lilith’s servers, so a client-side MOD cannot mint them. The genuine MOD features are combat-side: speed multiplier, damage scaling, and defense or God Mode. Any listing promising stacks of Diamonds for an online game like this is unreliable.

How is the MOD different from the stock APK?

The stock build caps auto-battle at 2x and ties clears to built formations and ascended heroes. The MOD adds a speed multiplier above the cap, a damage multiplier, and defense scaling, all toggled through a mod menu. It changes pacing and survivability in PvE, not the gacha or roster.

What does AFK Journey need to run on Android?

AFK Journey is a 3D idle RPG with detailed open-world art, so it favors mid-range and newer devices for smooth play. It is free on Google Play with optional in-app purchases. The standalone Homestead client is a separate install if you want the base-building and social mode on its own.

Can I play AFK Journey without spending money?

Yes. The shared per-class gear system means you only build one set per class, and events like the 1.6.41 Dawnlight Revelry hand out 200+ Invite Letters and 24,000+ Diamonds plus a free Celestial or Hypogean hero. Free players reach most PvE content by focusing pulls on a few carries like Odie, Cecia, and the Twins, Elijah & Lailah.
